Today saw Wrens start out on the quest to win the Richardson Cup (Premier Division League Cup). The visitors were Tempest Utd. and despite their lowly position we could not take them likely as witnessed by the 2 – 2 draw we had in the away league fixture.
The game started with Wrens taking full control of the game taking the lead through Pete Taberner on 5 minutes. Even though Tempest did come back into the game later in the half, Wrens created sufficient chances to be more than one up at half time.
The half time team talk must have worked wonders as last seasons top scorer Steve Creelman doubled the home sides lead on 48 minutes. Relentless pressure failed to add to the tally, though Steve Creelman did make it 3 – 0 on 70 minutes to take his tally to 5 for the season (4 of them in 2 weeks).
Next week sees us at home to Stoneclough in the league.
Management view
Today we entertained Tempest Utd. in the Richardson Cup for a place in the quarter final. After a good win and performance last week it was important that we carried that on into today’s game.
We started the game well and took the lead in the first 10 minutes. Then a much improved Tempest made life very difficult for us in the rest of the half.
In the second half we upped our work rate and quality and were much improved eventually running out 3 – 0 winners.
Back to league action next week when for the first time this season we will have a full squad to pick from as competition for places hots up at the business end of the season.
